We live on an island in Maine. And we are looking into geothermal energy for heating our school. How could we do this? Where could we get grants from? Who do you contact? Etc.

I also lived on a small island in Maine. Islands get a lot of grants, I would start by asking your selectmen or town manager. Also Island Institute is a great place to ask, they do what they can to help the outer islands. Our library was struck by lighting and we have had a lot of donations and also Stephen King is helping us rebuild our library. Just a matter of seeking help from the right people. Also ask some of your summer residents, they are a great source of help. Good luck
I would start with the local water utilities and university. The Maine region is a fairly stable section of the continent so more then likely your geothermal gradient is low. You may have to drill real deep to get to a good heat source. If you have to drill deep, then the cost of the wells would be much greater then the energy savings between the geothermal heat and a traditional heat source.
