Geothermal heating is one source or way to heat a home. The way most are houses are heated is the forced furnace form. Which is better?

Hello green.what1wants.com. I found your web site via Google while looking for a similar matter, your web site got here up. It appears good. I have bookmarked it in my google bookmarks to come back later.

All of these answers are great. As one person mentioned, a geothermal grid isn’t going to work for every home. For example, if your house is built on rock (or ledge) then installing a grid might be impossible.

    Good luck!

Geothermal is NOT efficient for heating. It is more for the cooling in the summer which is WAY more important since everyone is using electricity to cool their homes. In this respect it is the cat’s meow for cooling systems since the earth stays right about 50 degrees. In the country you need a long line run out and back for the water to exchange heat with the earth.

The only way geothermal would be efficient in heating is if you tapped an artesian well or hot spring or drilled way down to the heated part of the earth.

I applaud anyone who gets this done because the biggest stress to our electrical grid is AC in the summer time.

There are many ways to heat a home only one way to cool it.

As a matter of fact unless you get a unit that uses gas or propane the geothermal heaters use electricity to heat. I watch a meter in winter time when one was running and Ive never seen one turn that fast before.

the earth under frozen ground i think stays at 40′s temperature.now in the summer when you are cooling house with a heat pump in reverse you can be putting heat back into the ground. if you add solar heat to going into the ground,if that is possible the savings would be even better.

Geothermal is the most economical heat source in the long run. If you plan on living with the install for over 30 years, it’s the way to go. BTW, they work from forced air furnaces through a heat exchanger. The break even point on a geothermal install is about 18-20 years. The front end investment is just insane. With climbing utility costs, who knows? I may be wrong on my data, but that’s what I was told by a long time guy in the biz 5 years ago. So, which is better? Gas, electric, or geothermal? There are too many things to take in to account that you haven’t told us and there are simply things that can’t be forecast even if you had told us. Here ya go, read all about it:

Geothermal heating is more eco-friendly as it uses pre-existing heat rather than burning natural gas or coal. I’ts also more cost-efficient in the long run, because you are not paying for the fuel.

Geothermal is by far better because there is no burning of fossil fuels or natural gases. But the method is not available in every house location.
