I have been looking on the web for information about this, but all I can find is things about meetings and nothing truely useful.
So, if anyone could tell me how wildlife and drainage affects the sustainibility of the prairies, I would very much appreciate it.

Hey, you would know the answer if you have watched the recent series “America: the story of Us”.
There was an episode about the Dust Bowl that had a lot about that.
Anyway, the dust bowl was caused by poor farming practices that stripped the native grasses from the praries, and made furrows that did not slow the drainage. Instead those furrows often channeled the drainage into larger and larger flows that caused terrible erosion. Also the lack of ground cover and the lack of moisture in the soil mean that the fertile topsoil turned to dry dust and also blew away on the wind. Look up the terms Dust Bowl and Black Sunday.
The wildlife such as bison and prarie dogs helped fertilize and areate the soil.
